Technology Overview

These completely novel and patented diagnostic tests, based on MALDI ToF mass spectrometry are rapid, robust, and reliable and use high-tech diagnostics in a simple way. In a time of expensive and time-consuming genetic screening, the MAP tests, represent, an economical alternative to efficiently mass screen populations to tackle enduring global medical problems and providing effective solutions for personal health and wellbeing testing.

This form of analysis using direct MALDI ToF mass spectrometry is set to revolutionize the in vitro diagnostic arena following a similar approach, which has already seen a transformed microbiology market. This is an entirely new way of analysing samples and not simply a miniaturisation of existing methods. The novelty lies in the power of MALDI ToF to analyse hundreds of variables, very quickly, from a very small volume of biological fluid to form a diagnosis.

Samples of blood or urine can be simply collected, even by the patients themselves, and applied to a MALDI plate by a technician. The plate with the samples is placed in the MALDI ToF mass spectrometer that fires a laser at the sample causing a plume of proteins, which rises and separates based largely on size. The detector then sorts the proteins into size order and generates a data file, which is processed by algorithms to match with “normal” or match with “disease” on the database.

This process, from sampling to diagnosis, can take as little as 5-10 minutes and in side-by-side studies, results are as good, if not better, than current gold standard methodologies. This differentiates The Group’s technology from time consuming and expensive genetic technology, which still requires considerable time, infrastructure and expertise or older methods, which are time consuming and required skilled workers.
